Tyler Yarema and His Rhythm

Artist: Tyler Yarema and His Rhythm
Title: Gotta Bran' New Suit
Label: Radioland
Genre(s): Jump Blues / Swing Jazz
Producers: Bill King & Jeff Healey
Jeff Healey on Trumpet / Co-Producer

I got a call from long-time music champion and musician Terry Wilkins, asking if I’d photograph a recording session going on at Rogue Music Lab – a warehouse style set-up with newcomer – piano/vocalist Tyler Yarema – music giant Jeff Healey and Tyler’s rhythm section – Jesse Barksdale guitar, Mike Carson bass and Bob Vesperanzi drums.

The whole scene was a down to the basics session. An old upright piano that sounded as if it had been hauled from a 1930’s brothel stood amongst an odd assortment of collectables, shaded lamps, umbrellas, ashtrays, dishes and miles of cable. There was no separation just the sound off the floor. What ended up on tape was a mix of old school barrelhouse, a bit of Jerry Lee Lewis, a steaming horn section with Healey giving adding best Joe Oliver/Louis Armstrong trumpet embellishment. Half-way through the project, Wilkins invites me to co-produce and that’s when the fun began. How do you mix sound that comes from all directions; cars in transit, rumbling streetcars, buses, and clacking heat radiators? I just kept in mind – give it lots of punch and pop and clarity; after that – let the God’s tip their hats.

Currently, Tyler is rockin’ a twenty-year residency at Toronto’s Reservoir Lounge with his band.

ALOHA

Retired and loving it. I didn't start playing music until I was 30yrs old. Now at 70 I have enough time to persue the things I love to do. My day usually starts with a walk on the beach with my wife.

Then fiishes with evening at the beach. Most times, weather permitting, I'll play the music I love. Prior to moving to Hawaii I played with a jazz group on the mainland.

After moving to the islands I fell in love with the older Hawiian music. Since I play the sax it was a natural for me to start playing the beautiful older Hawaiian songs.

This was a challenge as there are very few sax players who have attempted to play Hawaiian music. My love for jazz leaked over into my desire to play Hawaiian.

The blend has led to a special approach to Hawaiian music and is especially appropriate played at sunset on the beach. A great way to finish the Day.

The Soul Exchange

The Soul Exchange

The Soul Exchange was founded in 2013 by guitarist Hans von Bell, drummer Benny White and guitarist Thomas von Bell. In 2014, the trio was joined by vocalist Erik Olofsson and Tobias Chevalier (vocals, keyboards etc).

The band enjoyed success with their eponymous debut album “The Soul Exchange”, produced by the seasoned rock producer and studio engineer Mats “Limpan” Lindfors, released on January 20th, 2015.

In 2016 the band underwent some personnel changes, with Daniel John joining founding members Hans & Thomas von Bell as new vocalist, and also bringing in Benny White on drums and Patrik “Patte” Ekelöf on bass, that makes up the present line up of The Soul Exchange.

With the new line up, the band has moved into a new direction, both musically and image wise, with a different modern sound and stage image.

The Soul Exchange will release their 2nd full length album, produced by the renowned Swedish producer Magnus “Tank” Ljungqvist, on the Mervilton Records label in the fall of 2016. The band promises this to be a much darker and modern sounding effort, than the debut.

Stating that “this is a new era of The Soul Exchange” and that “the band has found its sound on the 2nd album and this will be the formula going forward. Modern hard rock with a great portion of metal influences, and most importantly, the vocal arrangements and melodies are having a major focus in The Soul Exchanges’ otherwise riff oriented music”.

The phrase “It is the sound of a new world being born, and the louder sound of an old world being destroyed” has never been more relevant than for the new album by The Soul Exchange!

Maddness

FOR MADDNESS, ‘RAPTITUDE’ MEANS “NEVER GIVING UP”
“MADDNESS,” brings a hard-core attitude and aptitude in his latest single, “Never Giving Up.” The mix of rap, hip-hop and R&B is all part of his resilient mantra of “RAPtitude.”

(WASHINGTON, DC., U.S.A.) AUGUST 5th, 2016 – The best musicians have a high artistic aptitude and attitude. D.C.-based MADDNESS, also known as “L.A,” just happens to be one of those rare artists. He harnesses both of these traits, all while delivering hard-hitting messages through his “RAPtitude.” “Never Giving Up” is the first single to drop off of his latest CD, Method to Maddness. With his hard-core collision of rap, R&B, hip-hop, and soul, it’s obvious with his first single that MADDNESS is “Never Giving Up.”
MADDNESS - Most materialistic hip-hop artists follow trends. However, MADDNESS is different. He chose long ago to take a stand for everyday individuals against the negative forces that surround them. This theme is something he learned in his hard-knock upbringing. He explains, “In the times we live today people are led astray by the corrupt messages displayed in songs, television, and the general media.
MADDNESS has a powerful panacea for a lot of what is going on in today’s society. “Never Giving Up” is part of his musical medicine. It contains an uplifting anthem with a “sternt-up” style and synergistic theme of real-life resiliency. Within “Never Giving Up,” MADDNESS delivers music from the heart, but also with guts. The tune’s blasts bass and addictive musical phrasing all over the top tightly crafted new age beats. In sum, “Never Giving Up,” is authentic and groundbreaking hip-hop, with a new school twist.
L.A. gives insight, “You gotta’ get up when you’re knocked down.” He makes his focus his RAPtitude to motivate and defeat divisiveness. “We all have a tendency to get sidetracked in our life,” he explains. It’s one of the keys to the lyrics in this song, as L.A. raps, “I keep my head up, my eyes open, the wicked scoping, hoping don’t sleep.” So follow the method to theMADDNESS; it’s all about having aptitude and attitude. It’s called RAPtitude, and a commitment to “Never Giving Up.”
